Ernest Richardson IV is committed to helping people through some of life’s most stressful and important moments. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2001 and his Juris Doctor from the Appalachian School of Law in 2004, graduating with Dean’s List honors all six semesters. He is licensed to practice in all North Carolina State Courts and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Mr. Richardson represents clients in both state and federal courts throughout North Carolina, focusing on bankruptcy law for both debtors and creditors, as well as civil litigation, personal injury, workers’ compensation, and estate administration.

Meet the Attorney
Ernest Richardson IV returned to New Bern, North Carolina in 2004 after becoming licensed to practice law, choosing to build his career alongside his father and continue a family tradition of dedicated legal service. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2001 and his Juris Doctor from the Appalachian School of Law in 2004, graduating with Dean’s List honors in all six semesters.

Mr. Richardson understands that facing legal challenges can be overwhelming, stressful, and deeply personal. That’s why he takes a thoughtful, client-focused approach to every case—listening carefully, explaining your options in plain language, and helping you make informed decisions with confidence. Licensed to practice in all North Carolina State Courts and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, he represents clients in both state and federal trial courts, handling matters with care, precision, and unwavering dedication.

While he works across a broad range of legal areas, Mr. Richardson focuses primarily on civil litigation, insolvency issues, bankruptcy law for both debtors and creditors, personal injury, landlord-tenant matters, and workers’ compensation. His experience includes serving as a court-appointed receiver over a large apartment complex and successfully obtaining major automatic stay violation rulings against a large financial institution—twice. He approaches every case, no matter its size, with the same dedication and respect because he knows how much it matters to you.

Beyond his practice, Mr. Richardson is deeply committed to his community. He has served on multiple charitable boards, including Habitat for Humanity, the Neuse River Community Development Authority, and the New Bern Chamber of Commerce. Currently, he serves on the local Board of Elections as Acting Secretary. While he prioritizes his law practice and family, giving back to the community remains central to his life.

When not in the office, Mr. Richardson enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors boating, hunting, and fishing. His approach to law mirrors his life: patient, steady, and focused on what matters most—helping families, individuals, and businesses protect their future and move forward with confidence.
